For our Research Partners and Startups unit in Berlin we are looking for a senior deep learning researcher. You will join a global team that was built to challenge and improve state-of-the-art implementations and designs and help shape the future generations of SAP software. This is an ideal role for a very structured individual with an interest to work in a technology-focused environment. You will be a part of a team conducting data-driven research in the area of business applications with the unique possibility to impact 291,000 customers in 190 countries. Our current and upcoming projects focus on deep learning for quantitative marketing, banking, retail, and travel management. Many of our data sets are the largest and richest of their kind. Location for this position is Potsdam (preferred), Berlin or Walldorf.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
You will be responsible for a number of deep learning projects working with structured and unstructured real-world data. You will work at the intersection of business and academia, cooperating closely with leading university researchers and their teams as well as SAP data scientists. You will build systems which are future SAP products. Key tasks:
- Help shape and co-supervise the work of PhD students at leading universities
- Co-innovate with SAP data scientists and engineering teams on future SAP products
- Bridge the gap between the results of academic research and SAP product world
- Push the state of the art in Deep Learning creating new solutions for SAP's customers
- Supervise and get your hands dirty building breath taking prototypes
- Communicate and showcase results of projects to senior management
WORK EXPERIENCE
We are looking for an outstanding individual with proven track record of excellent research. You are at the post-doctoral career level, and have gathered experience working and leading multiple data-driven research projects.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research or related
- Track record of developing novel learning algorithms and/or systems with publications in CVPR/ICML/SIGKDD/NIPS/VLDB/SIGMOD/CIKM
- Proficiency in handling of multi-terabyte datasets in distributed Linux/Unix environments
- Experience with Deep Learning software packages such as Caffe/Torch/Theano
- Ability to visualize data and present core insights in a clear and compelling way
- Strong desire to overcome obstacles and make your research benefit SAP's customers
- Strong desire to maintain excellent publication record
- Experience in coaching and mentoring of PhD students
- Fluency in English, German skills are beneficialOther locations possible (Walldorf, Berlin)
